The versatility of the Swing Thru

 Swing Thru for Rail

Container Handling System

The Swing Thru can be positioned between a truck and rail wagon and used as a mobile crane. The versatility of the Swing Thru unit allows a full container to be placed on one side and an empty container to be picked up from the opposite side without having to reposition the vehicle. The Swing Thru system is unique in its boom design which has dual action hydraulic rams powering the lifting booms. This innovative feature enables Swing Thru to load and unload containers from either side or trans-ship in one movement, right over the unit and the vehicle it's mounted on. The Swing Thru can also transport containers from the railhead and deliver them direct to the customers premises. The unloading and delivery process is managed throughout the total process by the truck driver, with no other operator required.

An Alternative to Heavy Lifting

Container Handling System

Traditionally containers arriving at or being dispatched from rail terminals need to be lifted by large and extremely expensive heavy duty forklift trucks or large fixed overhead gantry cranes. Both these options are very expensive and have major operational drawbacks.
The heavy axle loadings of high capacity forklifts often require freight yards to be paved with heavy duty surfaces in order to cope with the extra wear and tear which adds to construction and maintenance costs. Overhead gantry cranes are inflexible and the cost can only be justified when high container throughput volumes are generated. With Swing Thru container handling systems all the inherent problems of existing container handling systems are eliminated.

Operates on Uneven and Unformed Ground Surfaces

Container Handling System

Operating on uneven ground or unpaved surfaces is no challenge for the Swing Thru unit. The Swing Thru's supporting legs enable it to work on most types of terrain. This means that the Swing Thru can be operated at little-used rail sidings, at factory railheads, or indeed anywhere where a truck can pull alongside the track.
Because Swing Thru is truck-mounted and road legal, it can be easily repositioned between multiple sites. Swing Thru is perfect for handling seasonal or peak container volumes such as agricultural harvests or factory outputs.

Economic Benefits

Container Handling System

Swing Thru has eliminated the need for reinforced ground surfaces and specialist operators.
Swing Thru can be utilised at sites where low throughput or peak seasonal variations make it uneconomic or impractical to deploy heavy container handling equipment.
On a double shift one 35 tonne Swing Thru unit recorded handling an amazing 78 containers in one day. When used in the rail industry this unit can deliver up to a 50% reduction in capital outlay when compared to top lift forklift systems.
